Rules
If anything on this page is unclear, you are welcome to ask a question about it here, on the FAQ, or directly to one of the mods. We would rather answer up front than have to get nasty later. Nobody wants that.
Because this is a community effort, rules are subject to evolve based on what our community members want. If you'd like to appeal or change a rule or moderator decision, you are absolutely welcome to contact us and we'll set that in motion.
Be kind to one another, and respect the boundaries of other community members. If possible, attempt to resolve any conflicts among yourselves before involving the mod team. Remember that we're all here to collect rocks and have an excellent time.
That said, we will not tolerate harassment, bullying, or other abusive behaviour, for any reason. The mod team’s response to complaints of these actions will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Given that we're on Dreamwidth, we follow their rules.
Content posted to the comm should relate to HnK in some way. This can include but is not limited to:
- Transformative content (e.g. fanfiction, fanart, fanvids)
- Critical content (e.g. meta analysis in literary, audio, or video form)
- Inspired-by content (e.g. HnK-themed baked goods, bonsai that looks like Bort, etc)
- Merchandise (e.g. pins, zines, commissions calls, etc)
- General on-topic discussion posts (what are the ice floes actually, why is Aechmea like this, etc)
You do not have to have created the content yourself, but please give credit where credit is due, and link back to the original post if you are recommending fanwork. Plagiarism is absolutely not cool.
The exception to the above is fanart. If you didn't make the fanart in question, please link back to the original Pixiv/Deviantart/Twitter where you found it instead of directly uploading it to Dreamwidth. This is to ensure the creator gets the attention they deserve!
Because the manga is licensed and the anime is not only streaming on Amazon Prime but is now getting an English dub (yes!! exciting!!), refrain from hosting entire portions of the manga or anime on Moonsand. You are welcome to link pages or clips and to upload screenshots when needed (this falls under Fair Use). We love this series and want it to succeed, so we should support it legally as much as possible!
We are not an age-restricted comm, and we are open-access. However, we do allow explicit (defined as anything that would merit an R rating) content, and it is up to the users to self-police to ensure they are seeing only what they are comfortable with.
To that end, make sure that you label explicit content when you post or share it and keep the entirety under a cut.
Place all discussion of the most recent update beneath a cut/private/under its own thread for at least one month to give members of the comm enough time to get caught up on the manga. After that, they are no longer considered spoilers. (For example, if a chapter comes out on August 25th, it is considered spoilers until after September 25th.)
If you are posting an image/video with significant plot spoilers, keep it under a cut. If you are recommending or posting fanfiction or meta with spoilers, please make a note saying up to what chapter you are spoiling for so readers can self-police.
Officially, this community does not take a position on what pronouns to use for the gems. Ichikawa's official statement is that the most accurate pronouns in English are they/them, and the moderators share this view. However, there are innumerable reasons supporting the use of other pronouns, and in lieue of standardization by the various publications of Houseki no Kuni, the policy is as follows:
- Fighting about pronoun use is absolutely not permitted.
- You are welcome to use whatever pronouns for the gems that you choose. We will not police this. We ask that you do not police it in others, which will result in a warning.
- If a roleplayer establishes use of a certain set of pronouns, those pronouns take precedent for their character, regardless of your headcanon.
- Civil discussions about pronouns and gender in context of HnK are allowed and encouraged!
We love a good shitpost as much as the next person, but unfortunately, Dreamwidth just really doesn't support that style of content the way other platforms do. You are welcome to leave shitpost-y comments in any posts or threads, and to go to town in the community Discord server, but shitposts will not be getting their own entries at this time.
It is very typical in fandom settings to find those who are struggling with a myriad of personal problems, as participating in fandom is a common form of escapism. While we both understand and empathize with this reality, we urge our members to seek help with their mental health from professionals rather than our community, as constant venting on the comm can affect the mental and emotional health of others. You are welcome to say whatever you need to among friends or on your own blog.
If you are in dire need, here is a list of resources we have put together to help you find the support you need. We hope your situation improves, and remind you that there is always something to look forward to in life!
No godmodding, infomodding, etc. If it's not allowed in another game, it's probably not allowed here (with the understanding that if we said it is allowed here, then it is).
Please comm-lock and rate your posts and put them under a cut, and be aware that the community is open-access. We leave it is up to member discretion whether they choose to access such posts. Avoid graphic images. We reserve the right to boot anyone from the comm who is engaging in adult threads with underage players.
It's very common for people to post toplevels on memes and then never tag out, relying on other players to come to them. You can absolutely assume that if someone has posted a toplevel then they are open to anything (unless indicated otherwise). Please tag out to at least one other person if you post a toplevel; that way we make sure threads actually happen!
